With the advent of spring and the
return of the songbirds, I thought Ms. Berriweather's Cottage was an apt
Boyds for this month. Ms. Berriweather has a birdhouse in front of her with
a sign that reads "House for Wren-t."
The quote is from Padraic Colum, "A
little house--a house of my own--Out of the wind's and rain's way."

Dressed in his holiday finery, Elgin
the Elf Bear (with some help from Ralph Waldo Emerson) comes with this
message:
"God evidently does not intend us
all to be rich, or powerful, or great, but He does intend us all to be
friends."
To all my friends, Merry Christmas!

To celebrate love,
here's Grenville and Beatrice...Best Friends. I've always been a
believer that your spouse is your best friends, too--it'll be the friendship
which remains years down the road when the passion that brought you together
in a now a low-burning ember.

As one of my favorite actors said, "life
is a journey." Life is also full of challenges, of which my writing
career has given me plenty. So I'd say that life is a journey full of
challenges that require persistence. This month's Boyds Bear is Sir
Edmund...Persistence. The most appropriate quote on this Bearstone is
from Calvin Coolidge: "Press on; nothing in the world can take the
place of perseverance. Talent will not; nothing is more common than
unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is
almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated
derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
Press on!"

With the advent of a new year upon us,
the "Noah and Co...Ark Builders" Boyds Bear seems appropriate as we should
each take this year to build something, whether it be new friendships, new
jobs, or simply a new attitude. I'm working on new and improved
habits.

You might recognize these two Civil War
Boyds Bears as the two I gave away in last month's contest. But I
thought it might be nice to preserve them here, too. On the left is
Mason, Pride of the North, and on the right is Dixon, Pride of the South.

I thought a Boyds from my America
collection would work well this month with Flag Day on June 14th. This
is Tommy Bearyproud...God Bless America. The apt quote that goes along
with it comes from Margaret Mead: "Never believe that a few caring
people can't change the world."

With spring comes rain showers and
flowers...and golf. This is Arnold P. Bomber, The Duffer. He comes complete
with a quote from Stephen Baker: "A professional will tell you the amount of
flex you need in the shaft of your club. The more the flex, the more
strength you will need to break the thing over your knees." I haven't come
that close to breaking my club, however, I have to admit to taking the game
a bit too seriously on occasion. (Just ask my husband.)

With spring right around the corner (in my part of the
world), one of the sure signs of the end of winter is a kite flying high in
the sky. Becky and Benji....Breezy Pastime say "The most important
thing in our lives is what we are doing now." Becky and Benji's advice
reminds each of us to take time every day to simply savor the here and now.

| Without a Boyds groundhog, I settled for
a romantic Bailey with his offering of chocolates--Bailey...Heart's Desire.

| Here we have Alexandra and Belle keeping in
touch. This Boyds was given to me by a close friend as a going-away. I
have to admit I'm not the best in keeping in touch, but I do think of my
friends often. So, if you have a friend you haven't touched lately, take a
few moments and do so. Friendships are precious--let's not waste them! |

| Show your patriotism like Becky and
Benji, and fly a kite on Memorial Day. |

| Ah, what would Valentine’s Day be
without love sonnets and chocolate? This month Wilson is reading from his
Love Sonnets book to the lovely Bailey, who has found her “Heart’s Desire”.
May you all find your heart’s desire, whether it be love or chocolate. |

| These Boyds are part of the
Nativity collection, which is a gentle reminder to me to slow down and
appreciate the true meaning of Christmas. Peace on Earth and Goodwill
to All! Merry Christmas, my friends! |

| Meet Bailey, Becky and Wilson,
all caught up in their books. September is back to school month for most of
the children. Time to get back to the books for reading, writing, and 'rithmetic.
Reading has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember.
My mother used to read to me before I could read for myself, then when I
learned the magic that books held, I became a book junkie. They took me to
exotic islands and back in history, as well as into the future; they carried
me breathlessly from one adventure to another. Reading is important for
young and old--encourage children to read and let yourself get caught up in
a world filled with wonderful characters and new places. |

| Since the summer is the time
for vacations and seeing the country, I thought Betsy B. Bearamerica would
be appropriate. It's Betsy in a balloon flying across the United States with
her banner that says Celebrate America. The quote from Henry Van Dyke on the
bottom reads: "So it's home again, and home again, America for me! My
heart is turning home again, and there I long to be in the land of youth and
freedom beyond the ocean bars. Where the air is full of sunlight and this
flag is full of stars." There are many military service men and women
who are looking forward to returning home, to America--keep them in your
prayers! |

| This month I chose one of my favorites to share with you: Bronson
Steadfast...Hangin' Tough. Because of my two new western historical
romances, I decided a cow-bear riding a rocking horse would be appropriate.
This Boyds also holds special meaning to me, with the quote "Persistence Counts"
across the bottom of it. I bought this figure two or three years ago when
I wasn't certain I would be selling another book and set it on my work desk.
Its lesson is one we can all learn from--only by persistence can we accomplish
our goals. |
